Fact: The Loo of the Year awards are a thing. Fact: The winners receive a golden loo seat. Fact: Droitwich has fared extraordinarily well in the competition.
In 2020, Wychavon District Council’s 12 public toilets were named the best in England. Three of its bogs also attained coveted ‘diamond’ status, including the ones in St Andrew’s Square, Droitwich. The toilets in the Lido Park retained their ‘platinum’ status.
Judges were impressed with the high standard of cleaning and facilities across all the district’s loos and officers were presented with the ‘golden seat’ during a socially distanced ceremony at the Civic Centre.
Councils, hotels, shopping centres and more take part in the competition and there was a further accolade for Droitwich when the St Andrew’s Square loos scooped the Best Baby Change Facilities Award.
Mike Bone, of Loo of the Year Awards, said: “It’s the first time in seven years a local authority has won so this is a massive achievement for Wychavon, which is ahead of the game with few public services offering facilities like theirs.”
It was not the first time judges from the British Toilet Association had gone potty for the St Andrew’s Square toilets. In 2017 they were named best in England during an awards ceremony in Solihull.
If you’re still doubting the existence of the ‘golden seat’ the evidence is here
