The cost of bringing life back to the abandoned Barge and Junction canals was a whopping £12 million.

Droitwich Canals Trust was formed in 1973 with the intention of opening up the waterways for leisure purposes.

Thirty-eight years later, thanks to the millions of hours worked by volunteer supporters and that cash injection from local authorities, the project was finally complete.

It included the digging of half a mile of new canal plus the canalisation of 500m of the River Salwarpe.
