Droitwich has a three-tier education system and parents have the option of sending their children to one of two middle schools – Witton and Westacre.
But once upon a time they had a choice of three.
St Richard de Wyche Middle School was on the Westlands estate and catered for around 400 children.
The school, along with its impressive sports hall, was demolished in 1991, just 20 years after it opened, to make way for a 90-home private housing development.
A Roman Catholic boys’ college next to the town’s Sacred Heart church also closed around the same time.
HELP: Does anyone have a picture of St Richard’s School?
My parents was asked if they would allow me to be christened at the school as part of a RE lesson, they agreed and I was the first person to be christened in a school. The school presented me with a silver goblet and a cake i was around 2 years old and I had my photo taken and it was in the local paper. Unfortunately i have lost the photo and was wondering if anyone knows where i could find the newspaper article.
